Lightning for Builders Security and next steps
Conclusion: what to build next
You have run every layer of Lightning yourself. Where the protocol is heading, and how to turn what you learned into a tool people use.

Draft: this lesson is still waiting for review.
What you'll learn
- Summarise the path from a single channel to a network of private payments
- Name three areas where Lightning is still changing
- Choose a project to build and share
Key terms
- Lightning Network (mtandao wa Lightning)
- A network on top of Bitcoin for fast payments with very small fees.
- open source (programu huria)
- Software whose code anyone can read, check and improve.
You started with one invoice. Since then you have opened and closed channels, followed a payment through HTLCs, built an onion, read the gossip graph, written a route finder, parsed raw messages, decoded invoices and probed a balance, all on real nodes.
Where Lightning is heading
- Better payment formats. BOLT 12 offers, blinded paths that hide the receiver, and async payments for phones that are often offline.
- Easier liquidity. Splicing (resizing a channel without closing it), dual-funded channels, and liquidity markets.
- Communities and custody. Fedimint and ecash bring Lightning to groups that share trust, like chamas, without each member running a node.
Build something
The Lightning Network is open source, and so is everything in this lab. The best way to keep learning is to ship a small tool and get feedback:
- Pick a brief from the builders path's final project, such as a chama tip jar, a UTXO explainer or an offline sats calculator, or invent your own.
- Build it against this lab: it's the same regtest network you already know.
- Share the repository in the Bitsacco community and ask for a review.
Reflect
Write your answer down, or talk it over with a friend or your chama.
- Which lesson changed how you think about Lightning the most?
- What small tool would make Lightning easier for a chama to use?
